Eve of Destruction

Ah, summer school almost over. I just have to finish and hand in this monster research paper tomorrow night. I'm knee-deep in this mutha - I've got about 15 books all dog-eared and sticky-padded all around me. Images of medieval fucking warfare blasting through my brain. 10 pages so far.

Seriously dudes, do a Google search on the Battle of Lepanto 1571, it is awesome. Possibly the largest naval battle ever. Old school. The last battle using rowed galleys. About 100,000 dudes ramming their ships together then having a 4 hour infantry battle on the locked decks. Amazing! Old school rifles, recurve bows, point-blank deck-sweeping cannons, grappling hooks, shit some guys even used apples and oranges as weapons. This was bloody carnage at sea like the world had never seen and possibly never has since.

The big difference was that the goal of these galley battles was to kill as many of the enemy as possible at close quarters. Boarding each other's ships. As opposed to "Master and Commander" type broad-side cannon battles which came 250 years later. It really is insane when you read a lot about it.

Anyway, I fucking love it. Although writing this paper is a real bitch.
