The more I watch "The World Is Not Enough" the more and more I think it is the worst of the James Bond films. I consider myself a connoisseur of Bond films and I remember walking out of the theater after seeing "TWINE" and being extremely pissed off. I remember thinking that I would rather there be no new Bond films than have drek like that pushed on us.
Thankfully we got "Die Another Day" a few years later, which totally kicked-ass and redeemed the series. My opinion on "TWINE" has softened over the years, however I re-watched it last night right before watching "The Bourne Identity" and my rage is boiling over. "TWINE" is total crap. The tone is all out of whack, the action directing sucks ass and they waste Robert fucking Carlyle by giving him an awesome origin as a villain and then hardly using him. Sure the plot of Bond being played by the heiress is okay, but it really fell flat when surrounded by all this other crap. And don't get me started on Denise Richards' crap part, where she appears half-way thru the film and does a big fat nothing in the movie other than yell 'It's closing!" or "It's flooding!" An utter waste of a great villian, a great rack and a great series. I'll take "Moonraker" over this crap any day.
Re-watching "The Bourne Identity" however was a delight. Every time I watch it, I enjoy this film more. It really is very good, even with all the changes from the book to the movie. And when considering it with the masterful sequel - this series and Ronin make for a pretty damn good post-Cold War espionage undercurrent in cinema. Keep 'em coming boys.
