"Well, how'd you like to kiss my sister's black cat's ass?"

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Deadwood is the new hot shit Western and I'm sure I'm gonna love it. But you know what? Nothing tops The Wild Bunch. Greta and I went to see The Wild Bunch on the big screen last night at the AFI Silver and all I have to say is, that seeing it up on the big screen again reminded me of what a fucking masterpiece that movie is. Sam Peckinpah was a friggin genius. The children making the ants fight the scorpions in the opening mirroring the bounty-hunters watching The Bunch battle the Federales at the end is just about one of the best cinematic statements about violence and human nature there ever was or ever will be. Not to mention the other hundred or so savvy observations he peppers each and every brilliant scene with. The real genius of Peckinpah is that he was able to make these bad-ass, gutsy movies, maintain a high-level of entertainment and get away with all this mind-blowing arty shit. Ah the guy is my hero. Lucky for me in the next 4 weeks the AFI is also showing several of his other greats, Including "The Getaway", "Bring Me The Head of Alfredo Garcia" and fucking "Straw Dogs"! There are so many of my friends I wish I could watch these flicks with. You all know who you are. I wish you guys were here. You guys are my Wild Bunch. I'll close with a quote from the immortal Pike Bishop, leader of The Bunch. "When you side with a man, you stay with him. And if you can't do that, you're like some animal, you're finished. We're finished. All of us."
